The medlar is an ancient tree which was producing fruit in Roman age Britain. Today, it’s not grown that often despite medlars being incredibly attractive trees with an ornamental look. The fruits are best left to 'blet' (to mature and soften) before being eaten raw but they are great for jellies and jams. Medlar fruit trees are perfect if you fancy growing something a little a bit different or if you have a smaller garden.
