Bare Root | 5–6ft Tall | By Direct Plants
Add refined character and exceptional seasonal interest to your garden with Malus ‘Director Moerlands’, a distinguished ornamental crab apple supplied as a premium bare root tree at 5–6ft tall by Direct Plants. Grown and carefully selected at our award-winning family nursery in Norfolk, this substantial tree is chosen for its reliability, form, and understated elegance.
Renowned for its deep pink spring blossom and rich burgundy-purple fruits, ‘Director Moerlands’ offers a more dramatic colour palette than many crab apples. Its neat, upright habit makes it particularly well suited to formal gardens, avenues, lawns, and statement planting where structure and balance are key.
(Malus ‘Director Moerlands’ – Ornamental, approx. 15–20ft / 4.5–6m at maturity)
‘Director Moerlands’ produces masses of dark pink flowers in spring, followed by glossy, wine-coloured crab apples that persist into winter. The fruits contrast beautifully with autumn foliage and provide an excellent food source for birds. Hardy and dependable, this variety combines ornamental impact with a calm, architectural presence.
Suitable for most soil types and garden positions, it thrives when planted directly into the ground but can also be grown in a large container (100 litres or more) for patios and courtyards. When grown in pots, its size can be easily managed while retaining its elegant form.
