Carpinus Betulus, commonly known as the hornbeam, is a superb and long-established native hedging tree. It looks and grows very similar to beech; however, the leaves have much deeper veins. Our hornbeam hedge troughs are a perfect hedging solution where soil conditions are poor or for very exposed areas. Hornbeam hedging is very hardy and semi-evergreen. The leaves in spring and summer are lush green in colour turning golden brown in winter. This again is very similar to the beech tree. However, the hornbeam does drop slightly more leaves than beech.
Hornbeam hedge troughs are an ideal way to create privacy and can also be used as a windbreak or noise barrier. Supplied in large 1m long troughs to give an instant hedge and can be planted any time during the year.
