For most hedging projects, we recommend approximately 1–2 Cherry Laurel plants per metre, depending on how quickly you would like the plants to knit together and form a dense hedge.
For a more economical hedge where you are happy to allow additional growing time, plant approximately 1 plant per metre. For customers wanting quicker coverage and a denser effect, approximately 2 plants per metre can be used.
Your planting layout can also be adapted to suit the finished hedge you require:

The final spacing and layout should be selected according to your available space, desired hedge thickness and how quickly you would like the plants to establish into continuous coverage.
Prepare the ground thoroughly by removing weeds and loosening compacted soil. Dig planting holes sufficiently wide to comfortably accommodate each root ball and position the plants at approximately the same depth as they have been growing in their pots.
Backfill with good-quality soil, firm gently and water thoroughly immediately after planting. Consistent watering is particularly important during the first growing season while the root systems establish.
A generous layer of organic mulch around the base will help conserve moisture, suppress weeds and improve growing conditions. Keep mulch slightly clear of the main stems.
Once established, trim the plants as required to encourage branching and develop the density, height and shape you want from your finished hedge.
