Green Beech Hedging

Green Beech hedging is a classic choice for creating dense, attractive garden boundaries with excellent seasonal interest. Fagus sylvatica produces fresh green foliage through spring and summer, turning warm copper and russet shades in autumn. When regularly clipped, Beech hedges often retain their dry brown leaves through winter, providing additional structure and screening before fresh growth appears in spring.

Green Beech is a traditional deciduous hedging plant that responds particularly well to regular trimming, making it suitable for formal garden boundaries as well as more natural planting schemes. Its dense branching creates an attractive, well-defined hedge, while the changing foliage provides colour and interest throughout much of the year.

Although deciduous, an established clipped Beech hedge commonly holds onto its brown leaves through winter, helping to maintain a degree of screening until the new foliage emerges. It performs best in free-draining soil and can be grown in sun or partial shade.

For a more colourful alternative, explore our Copper Beech hedging, or consider Hornbeam hedging if you need a traditional hedge for heavier or damper ground. You can also browse our complete range of hedging plants to compare different species for boundaries, privacy and screening.
